Germany and Namibia Sign N$103 Million Energy Agreement
Germany and Namibia signed a N$103 million technical cooperation agreement to expand sustainable energy access and develop critical raw material value chains.
The Government of Namibia and the Federal Government of Germany signed a N$103 million technical cooperation agreement to expand sustainable energy access and develop value chains for critical raw materials. The deal follows bilateral negotiations conducted in Lüderitz in 2025.
One primary project under the agreement aims to increase Namibia's energy access from 59.3% to 70% by 2030. A second project focuses on creating local economic opportunities and value addition related to the global energy transition. The agreement was signed by German Ambassador Thomas Wimmer and National Planning Commission Director General Kaire Mbuende.
This partnership builds on a history of German support for Namibian infrastructure, including the rehabilitation of the Ruacana Hydropower Plant and the construction or replacement of roughly 1,300km of transmission lines. The signing occurred shortly after President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah received Ambassador Wimmer's credentials on 7 October 2026.
