Shopify Shares Jump 18% Following Strong AI-Driven Earnings

Shopify reported a 34% revenue increase to $3.58 billion in the second quarter, driven by the deep integration of artificial intelligence across its services.

Shopify shares rose over 18% on Wednesday after the company reported second-quarter revenue of $3.58 billion, a 34% increase that exceeded analyst estimates of $3.45 billion. Gross merchandise volume also grew 32% to $115.57 billion during the period.

The company attributes this growth to the pervasive integration of artificial intelligence across its e-commerce services. AI-driven customer traffic and orders tripled in the second quarter, fueled by the adoption of the Sidekick assistant and strategic partnerships with Google, Microsoft, and OpenAI. These tools have been particularly effective for small- and medium-sized businesses.

CEO Tobias Lütke bolstered investor sentiment by showcasing new AI hardware and programming language implementations. The company provided a positive third-quarter forecast, expecting revenue to grow in the low-thirties percentage range and gross profit to rise in the mid-to-high twenties percentage range. This outlook addressed previous investor concerns regarding the costs of AI infrastructure and competitive pressures.
