UAE Sends Humanitarian Aid to Ghana After Devastating Floods

The United Arab Emirates launched an emergency humanitarian response on July 23 to assist thousands of people affected by catastrophic flooding in Ghana. Acting under the directives of President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE Aid Agency is delivering essential food supplies and emergency shelter materials to displaced populations.

The floods occurred on June 29 following hours of torrential rainfall, resulting in 45 deaths and displacing 38,651 people. Approximately 131,825 individuals from 21,367 families were impacted across the Greater Accra, Volta, and Central regions, where the water damaged homes, businesses, and critical infrastructure.

To facilitate the recovery, the UAE Aid Agency is coordinating with local partners and the Government of Ghana to ensure aid reaches the most vulnerable families. This international assistance is designed to complement existing relief operations led by the Government of Ghana and the National Disaster Management Organisation. The UAE government expressed solidarity and condolences to the Ghanaian government and the families of the victims to support rapid stability.
