Sadiq Khan Leads Polls for Potential 2028 London Mayoral Bid

Sadiq Khan is projected to win a fourth term as Mayor of London according to a Savanta poll conducted for the Mile End Institute.

A Savanta poll for the Mile End Institute at Queen Mary University of London indicates that Sadiq Khan is the favorite to win a fourth term as Mayor of London in the 2028 election. The survey of 1,038 adult Londoners places the Labour candidate at 33% support, while the Conservatives and Reform UK are tied at 18%. The Green Party follows with 17%, and the Liberal Democrats hold 9%.

Although the Labour lead is significant, political analysts suggest a strong Conservative or Green candidate could still make inroads since the current lead remains well below 50%. Data suggests Labour remains strongly favored once second-preference votes are transferred. Sadiq Khan has not yet formally confirmed his candidacy, indicating he will make a final decision next year.

Other parties have begun organizing their campaigns. Reform UK has named former Westminster councillor Laila Cunningham as its candidate. Within the Conservative Party, former Home Secretary James Cleverly has emerged as an early frontrunner for the nomination. Additionally, the poll shows a surge for the Green Party, which could potentially finish second in a hypothetical London Assembly election with 20% of the vote, potentially securing five seats.
