Apple A20 Pro Chip Leaks Reveal 2nm Process Upgrades
Apple plans to debut the A20 Pro chip on September 9, featuring a 2-nanometer process and significant GPU and memory performance boosts.
Leaked circuit diagrams and supply-chain reports indicate that Apple will introduce the A20 Pro chip during a September 9 event in Cupertino. Designed for the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, the processor is expected to be the first Apple chip utilizing the 2-nanometer manufacturing process from TSMC.
The leaks, which originated from a Weibo user, suggest the A20 Pro will feature a seven-core GPU, an increase from the six cores found in the A19 Pro. Additionally, the chip will reportedly employ a 96-bit memory interface for LPDDR5X RAM, representing a 50% increase over the previous 64-bit interface. Macworld estimates these hardware changes could result in a 20% to 30% boost in GPU performance.
While the CPU configuration is expected to remain at six cores, the efficiency cores will reportedly share an expanded 8MB L2 cache. The A20 Pro may also power a first-generation foldable iPhone, although analysts suggest one GPU core might be disabled in that specific model to manage thermal constraints. Apple has not officially confirmed these specifications.
