Apple iPhone 18 Pro Max Rumored to Be Heavier and Thicker

Apple is reportedly increasing the weight and thickness of the iPhone 18 Pro Max to accommodate a larger battery and upgraded cooling systems.

Reports and regulatory filings suggest that Apple Inc. will release an iPhone 18 Pro Max that is heavier and thicker than the iPhone 17 Pro Max. Leaks from Ice Universe and regulatory listings in China and the United States indicate the device will weigh approximately 240 grams, up from 233 grams, and measure 9mm in thickness. This increase is primarily attributed to a larger battery, with capacities expected to reach 5,567 mAh for eSIM-only models and 5,391 mAh for physical SIM versions.

Additional weight and thickness may stem from a new stainless steel vapor chamber cooling system. However, reports from Macworld contradict these claims, citing CAD files that suggest the main chassis remains 8.75mm, arguing that perceived thickness increases result from a larger camera plateau and taller lenses. Other conflicting rumors from Fixed Focus Digital suggest the lineup could be as thick as 10.75mm.

Further rumored upgrades for the iPhone 18 Pro series include a 2nm A20 chip and a triple 48-megapixel rear camera system with variable aperture. There are also claims that Apple will omit black or dark gray color options for a second year, potentially offering only silver, light blue, and dark cherry. Apple has not confirmed any specifications ahead of the expected September launch.
