Singer Chris Brown rejected a Texas state legislative recognition and criticized the lawmaker who presented it after the official apologized for the gesture. The incident began on September 12 during an R&B Tour concert at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, where Texas State Representative Venton Jones presented Brown with a state resolution and U.S. Representative Jasmine Crockett announced that Brown and Usher were entered into the Congressional Record.

The honors triggered immediate public backlash citing Brown's history of domestic violence, including a 2009 felony assault conviction. Representative Jones later issued a formal apology to his constituents and specifically to Black women, admitting the honor was an attempt to reach voters before the November 3 midterm election.

Brown responded via Instagram, accusing Jones of tap dancing to avoid losing voter support. While Brown initially apologized to Crockett for any backlash she faced, he told Jones to keep the award and demanded that politicians leave him alone to focus on his fans.
