Nvidia Expands AI Dominance Amid Broadcom and Credo Competition

Nvidia maintains its lead in AI infrastructure through GPU dominance and a $12.9 billion acquisition of Hugging Face while facing competition from Broadcom and Credo.

Nvidia continues to dominate the AI computing market through its general-purpose Graphics Processing Units (GPUs), reporting second-quarter revenue of $96.2 billion and expecting $108 billion for the third quarter. To further expand its software capabilities, the company recently agreed to acquire Hugging Face for approximately $12.9 billion. For fiscal 2026, Nvidia reported revenue of nearly $215.9 billion and net income of approximately $120.1 billion, with over 90% of its revenue coming from its data center division.

Despite this scale, Nvidia faces competition from hardware specialists. Broadcom is challenging Nvidia's footprint by developing Application-Specific Integrated Circuits (ASICs), which are custom AI chips designed for specific tasks at lower price points. Broadcom has issued aggressive growth projections, forecasting $115 billion in AI semiconductor revenue for fiscal year 2027 and $230 billion for fiscal year 2028.

In the connectivity niche, Credo Technology Group provides high-speed interconnect solutions for AI data centers, reporting fiscal 2026 revenue of nearly $1.3 billion. Credo has partnered with Oracle to develop ZeroFlap optics to improve data center reliability. Both Nvidia and Credo face similar headwinds, including geopolitical tensions and export controls affecting their operations in China.
