Former Oracle Engineer Warns H-1B Workers Over AI Displacement

Former Oracle Corporation senior software engineer Ayush Raj Jha described a state of "constant fear and uncertainty" for H-1B visa holders as artificial intelligence adoption and corporate layoffs disrupt the tech sector. Jha highlighted the precarious nature of the H-1B visa, which provides a narrow 60-day window for workers to secure new employment before losing legal status in the United States.

Following layoffs at Oracle in March, Jha maintained a rigorous preparation schedule, dedicating 8 to 10 hours per week to AI-related coursework and open-source projects to remain employable. He eventually transitioned to a staff software engineer role at a privately owned customer service software company in July to mitigate visa risks.

Jha warned that high performance at a current company no longer guarantees job security, asserting that AI adoption makes employees potentially replaceable regardless of their track record. He urged other engineers to maintain constant preparation for new interviews to stay relevant in a changing labor market.
