Revolut Unfreezes House Deposit After Three-Week Security Review

Revolut reinstated the accounts of an Oxfordshire couple and paid a goodwill gesture after freezing a 37,000 pound house deposit for a security review.

Revolut froze the accounts of a couple in Oxfordshire for nearly three weeks, including a joint savings account containing a 37,000 pound house deposit. The company stated the restrictions were part of a routine security review, but the delay caused direct debits to bounce and threatened the completion of the couple's property purchase.

The customers reported that the company missed multiple deadlines to lift the restrictions and provided inadequate communication through its call center. Revolut later explained that regulatory constraints prevented it from disclosing details about the review process while it was active.

Following intervention by The Guardian's Consumer Champions, Revolut reinstated the accounts and provided a 175 pound goodwill gesture. The company apologized for the delay and the failure of its communication standards during the incident.
