DTCC Leads Blockchain Pilot With 40 Financial Firms
The Depository Trust & Clearing Corp. tested tokenized asset trading with 40 firms to integrate blockchain technology into daily financial workflows.
The Depository Trust & Clearing Corp. oversaw a four-hour blockchain pilot in July involving nearly 40 financial firms, including JPMorgan Chase & Co., Goldman Sachs Group Inc., Invesco Ltd., and Citadel Securities LLC. The exercise simulated a standard trading day on the DTCC's private network and the Canton Network, where participants traded stocks and Treasuries, posted collateral, and met margin calls using digital versions of assets.
During the test, firms like JPMorgan Chase & Co. converted securities collateral into digital tokens to fund margin calls, while Invesco Ltd. used its Nasdaq 100 ETF as tokenized equity collateral. The pilot aimed to verify if tokenized assets could integrate into daily workflows while maintaining traditional risk and custody controls.
DTCC plans to transition the service from limited testing to ongoing use in October, which will include an expanded participant pool and support for Treasury corporate actions. While the pilot validated the technology's functionality, officials noted that broad commercial adoption still requires further regulatory alignment, legal clarity, and system integration.
