Russia Thwarts Multiple Ukrainian Drone Plotes Amid Reciprocal Strikes
The Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation intercepted several Ukrainian drone swarm attacks while both nations conducted deadly reciprocal aerial strikes.
The Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation thwarted multiple Ukrainian drone operations between July 13 and 14, 2026. The agency disrupted a plot to attack the Ukrainka and Shagol military air bases in the Amur and Chelyabinsk regions, seizing 24 electronic warfare-resistant drones. These drones were reportedly delivered via balloons and UAVs to the Bryansk region before being smuggled inland in trailers disguised as household appliance shipments.
On July 14, the service stopped a second operation targeting a strategic defense enterprise in the Moscow region. This plot involved 35 drones smuggled in shipments of Spanish ceramic tiles. The FSB detained a Russian citizen and killed another suspect during the operation. Russian authorities alleged the attack was organized by the Security Service of Ukraine and Albert Viktorovich Vasilyev, a Ukrainian-American blogger.
These security operations coincided with a surge in kinetic conflict. On July 13, Russian missile and drone strikes killed at least four people in Ukraine's Dnipropetrovsk and Kherson regions. Simultaneously, Ukrainian strikes in Russia killed four people and wounded seven, with significant casualties in Pionersky, Moscow Oblast. Other strikes hit the Belgorod region and sparked an industrial fire in Stavropol. Amid these escalations, the United States authorized Ukraine to begin constructing US-designed Patriot air defense systems.
