India Approves ₹7,503 Crore in Electronics Manufacturing Projects

The Government of India approved 12 new electronics component projects and launched the Semicon 2.0 portal to reduce import dependence and expand semiconductor manufacturing.

The Government of India approved 12 new proposals worth approximately ₹7,503 crore under the Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS) on November 6, 2026. These projects focus on upstream materials and capital goods, including a ₹3,546 crore copper foil plant by Indo Asia Copper in Gujarat and a ₹2,438 crore anode material project by TACC in Madhya Pradesh. The latest tranche is expected to create over 7,000 jobs and generate production exceeding ₹39,000 crore.

Due to strong industry response, the government increased the ECMS budget to ₹40,000 crore from an original ₹22,919 crore. To date, the scheme has approved 118 applications across 16 states, attracting a cumulative investment of ₹77,051 crore and generating employment for 81,755 people. Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw noted that 50% of the approved units are small and medium enterprises.

Simultaneously, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology launched the Semicon 2.0 web application portal. This portal accepts applications for semiconductor fabrication facilities, chip packaging, and equipment and materials. The broader Semicon India Programme, which includes a ₹1.27 lakh crore budgetary outlay, aims to attract at least three large equipment manufacturers and five chemicals and gases companies to build a comprehensive domestic ecosystem.
