TeamViewer Study Reveals Global AI Confidence Gap in Workplace

Evaluating the transition toward the autonomous digital workplace, TeamViewer released a global study titled 'Path to the Autonomous Digital Workplace' on July 22, 2026. The research, conducted by Sapio Research across nine markets, identifies a significant 'AI Confidence Gap.' While 75% of the 4,200 respondents use AI daily and 97% report benefits, 95% express concern about AI operating without human oversight, and 61% prefer that AI take no independent action.

This lack of trust creates a verification burden, with 56% of users spending an average of two hours per week checking AI-generated work. This trend is more pronounced in Australia, where 64% of respondents oppose independent AI action and 65% spend an average of 2.34 hours weekly on validation. In contrast, IT leaders show higher confidence, with 99% to 100% comfortable delegating at least one task to AI. These leaders expect 40% to 45% of digital workplace services to run autonomously by 2030.

TeamViewer executives argue that productivity will not come from granting AI unlimited authority, but through 'trusted autonomy.' To bridge the gap, workers identified security and privacy protections, activity monitoring, and notifications for significant changes as critical requirements. The company emphasizes a shift from prompt-based software toward systems that operate within transparent guardrails and know when to bring humans into the decision process.
