Senator Jordon Steele-John Takes Leave Amid Misconduct Allegations

Senator Jordon Steele-John has stepped away from the Australian Greens party room following allegations of inappropriate comments made to women.

Senator Jordon Steele-John has taken leave from the Australian Greens party room following allegations that he made inappropriate comments to women between 2017 and 2025. The move comes after seven party members, including five current and former staffers and two branch members, sent a letter to party leader David Shoebridge demanding an independent investigation. The signatories alleged that multiple women had been warned against being alone with the senator because of his reputation.

Steele-John rejects the characterization of his behavior and has referred the matter to the Western Australian Greens for an independent review. He claims that in the single complaint he is aware of, he was actually the victim of domestic abuse and family violence, a matter he is currently addressing with Western Australian Police.

David Shoebridge accepted the request for leave, stating that the integrity of the complaints process is essential. Shoebridge maintained that the situation must be resolved through a fair and independent review to ensure all parties receive procedural fairness.
