Edappadi K Palaniswami Criticizes Tamil Nadu Government Over London Trip

AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami launched a series of criticisms against the Tamil Nadu government during a press conference in Madurai on September 17, 2026. Palaniswami questioned the legitimacy of Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay's recent visit to London, where the Chief Minister signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Motherson. Palaniswami noted that the company already operates in Chennai and criticized the Chief Minister for traveling to the UK without the Minister for Industries or the Industries Department Secretary.

Beyond the diplomatic trip, Palaniswami accused the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam government of failing to meet election promises and mismanaging state finances, alleging that state debt has increased by nearly Rs 40,000 crore. He urged the administration to cancel plans for a new, expensive Secretariat in a congested coastal area until the state's financial health improves.

Palaniswami also highlighted a contradiction regarding the state's energy supply. He pointed out that while Electricity Minister Sunny Joseph denies any power deficit, the government is simultaneously planning to purchase 2,000 MW of electricity from outside the state.
