Uber Cuts 3,300 Jobs to Fund Autonomous Vehicle Shift

Uber Technologies Inc. is cutting approximately 3,300 roles, representing 10% of its global workforce, as part of a restructuring to simplify organizational structures. Chief Executive Officer Dara Khosrowshahi announced the company will reduce the number of managers by 20% and eliminate nearly half of its micro-teams consisting of only one or two members.

The overhaul aims to reduce coordination overhead and reallocate spending toward ride-sharing, delivery, and robotaxi businesses. This includes a planned $10 billion commitment to autonomous vehicle partnerships. Khosrowshahi stated that a leaner organization would allow for clearer ownership and faster decisions.

Alongside the layoffs, the company is tightening its location strategy. Uber will now mandate that only about 1% of employees may work remotely, while reinforcing a hybrid policy that requires staff to be in the office three days a week. These reductions bring the company's total headcount to just under 30,000 employees.
