ABC Appoints David Chau as New Finance Presenter

The Australian Broadcasting Corporation has appointed David Chau as the new finance presenter for its 7pm news bulletins. Chau replaces Alan Kohler, a veteran journalist who spent 31 years with the broadcaster. Kohler moved his retirement date forward from the end of the year to launch a new podcast, Kohler and Kohler, with his son Chris.

In addition to the presenter change, the broadcaster created a new money correspondent role focused on the intersection of the economy and personal finance. Jessica Irvine, previously an economics journalist at the Age and the Sydney Morning Herald, will fill this position starting in November.

ABC News Director Simon Robinson and Managing Director Hugh Marks praised Kohler's long tenure and contribution to the network. Chau stated he was honored to continue the legacy of a man he described as a national treasure.
