Russia and Ukraine Exchange Strikes on Strategic Port Infrastructure

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation and Ukrainian forces exchanged targeted strikes on critical maritime and energy infrastructure between August 13 and 14, 2026. Russian forces conducted missile strikes against Ukrainian maritime military infrastructure, specifically targeting fuel and lubricant storage tanks and cargo unloading equipment in the port of Odessa. Russian forces also struck a Ukrainian patrol boat in the port of Ochakov in the Nikolaev region as part of an effort to sever military supply lines.

In response, Ukrainian drones targeted the Leningrad region of Russia overnight on August 14. The attack sparked a fire at the port of Ust-Luga, a major Baltic gateway for crude oil and grain exports that houses a Novatek PJSC refinery. Governor Alexander Drozdenko reported that between 51 and 54 drones were downed over the region. He stated that all consequences of the attack were eliminated and no victims were reported.

The escalation extended into the Baltic region, where Latvia used fighter jets to shoot down a drone that entered its airspace. Finland also restricted movement in parts of the Baltic Sea as a precaution against drone activity.
