Muslim Council of Elders Condemns Israeli E1 Settlement Plan
The Muslim Council of Elders called for international intervention to stop Israeli settlement expansion east of Jerusalem and protect the possibility of a Palestinian state.
The Muslim Council of Elders condemned the Israeli government's E1 settlement plan and related activities east of occupied Jerusalem. The Council described these settlement policies in the Occupied Palestinian Territory as illegal and in violation of international law and United Nations resolutions.
According to the Council, the E1 plan threatens regional peace and disrupts the territorial contiguity between the West Bank and Jerusalem. The organization stated that these actions jeopardize the creation of a viable, independent Palestinian state.
Beyond the settlement plans, the Council denounced violence committed by settlers against Palestinians and their property, alleging that Israeli occupation authorities support these actions. The Council called upon the international community to intervene to halt the expansion of settlements and support the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.
