Republican Jim Kingston Wins Georgia's 1st Congressional District
Republican Jim Kingston won the election for Georgia's 1st Congressional District seat after a tight contest against Democrat Amanda Hollowell.
Republican Jim Kingston won the election for Georgia's 1st Congressional District seat. The Associated Press called the race for Kingston at 12:14 a.m. Wednesday following a close contest against Democratic candidate Amanda Hollowell.
The seat became available after Republican U.S. Representative Buddy Carter vacated the position to run for the U.S. Senate. Socialist Labor Party candidate Dylan Castillo also appeared on the ballot in the coastal Georgia district.
Hollowell campaigned on the premise that younger voters and a more diverse electorate had increased the district's competitiveness. While results from Effingham County were still pending, Hollowell stated, "I fully believe in democracy, and I believe we should count every vote," and added, "And so I’m not giving up."
