Barclays Forecasts Potential Tesla and SpaceX Merger

Barclays analysts predict Elon Musk may merge Tesla and SpaceX by December 6 to integrate AI technologies and semiconductor production.

Analysts at Barclays suggest that Elon Musk could announce a merger between Tesla, Inc. and Space Exploration Technologies Corp. before December 6, 2026. The timing may coincide with Tesla's annual general meeting. The proposed combination seeks to leverage financial synergies and the vertical integration of artificial intelligence, specifically through shared projects like Terafab, a semiconductor plant producing chips for orbital AI satellites, robotaxis, and electric vehicles.

SpaceX recently entered the public market in June 2026 with a record $75 billion IPO and absorbed Musk's AI startup, xAI, in February 2026. Musk has not ruled out a merger, noting that the two companies overlap "on so many fronts."

Significant obstacles remain for the deal, including the need for shareholder approval from both entities. Regulatory hurdles are expected in China, where SpaceX's relationship with the U.S. government could raise national security concerns. If the merger is completed, Musk could consolidate his control with an estimated 56% of the voting power in the combined company.
