Maharashtra Approves Direct Recruitment for Retired Agniveers
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis approved a policy to recruit retired Agniveers into state police and uniformed services without competitive exams.
Devendra Fadnavis, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, led the state cabinet in approving a policy to directly recruit retired Agniveers into the state police and other uniformed services. The initiative allows veterans who complete their four-year military tenure to be absorbed into Group-C uniformed posts, including coastal security and fire services, without requiring competitive recruitment examinations or repeated initial training.
The government established a 10 per cent horizontal reservation for these veterans and implemented a four-year relaxation of the upper age limit. To ensure integration, the state will prioritize Indian Navy veterans for the coastal security wing and has committed to creating additional posts if existing vacancies are insufficient.
This policy aligns with central government guidelines recommending that 75 per cent of Agniveers be absorbed into state or central forces following their service. Fadnavis stated that every Agniveer wishing to transition into state government service will be absorbed directly into police and uniformed services without exam or training barriers.
