BYD August Sales Rise 17.8% Driven by Export Surge

BYD Co. reported a 17.8% increase in global vehicle sales for August 2026, totaling 440,293 units. This growth was primarily fueled by a 134.5% surge in exports, with 189,466 vehicles delivered to international markets. These overseas shipments now account for 43% of total sales and helped the company offset muted consumer demand and intense competition within China.

International revenue surpassed domestic revenue for the first time during the first half of the year. The company is currently expanding its presence in Europe, Southeast Asia, and South America. Brazil has emerged as a key growth pillar, where the manufacturer plans to launch a locally produced plug-in hybrid flex-fuel vehicle.

Despite these gains, the company remains below the pace necessary to reach its annual sales target of 5 million to 5.5 million vehicles. BYD faces ongoing headwinds, including potential European Union tariffs on Chinese hybrids and scrutiny regarding labor practices at its factory in Hungary.
