Oman Minister Urges Alternative LNG Routes to Bypass Hormuz

Oman's Minister of Energy and Minerals, Salim Al-Aufi, urged gas producers and traders to develop alternative liquefied natural gas (LNG) export routes to bypass the Strait of Hormuz. Speaking at the Gastech conference in Bangkok on Monday, Al-Aufi recommended diversifying options through Oman, Yemen, or northern routes to maintain resource flow during the ongoing conflict in the Persian Gulf.

The Strait of Hormuz typically handles one-fifth of the global LNG supply, and the current regional war has exposed the vulnerability of Gulf nations dependent on this single waterway. Oman already operates one LNG export plant on its eastern coast that functions independently of the Hormuz conduit.

In response to these security risks, Adnoc Gas Plc is considering the construction of a new LNG export facility located outside the Strait to secure its supply chain.
