Synopsys Launches Record $1 Billion Share Repurchase Program
Synopsys entered a $1 billion accelerated share repurchase agreement with JPMorgan Chase Bank, marking the largest buyback in the company's history.
Synopsys entered a $1 billion accelerated share repurchase agreement with JPMorgan Chase Bank on October 5, 2026. This transaction represents the largest buyback in the company's history, significantly exceeding previous programs that typically ranged between $100 million and $200 million.
Under the terms of the agreement, Synopsys received an initial delivery of approximately 1,735,000 shares. The company expects the final settlement of the remaining shares to be completed by January 5, 2027.
The buyback follows a period of stock price growth sparked by an October 1 Investor Day, during which the company announced a custom-chip deal with Amazon and a partnership with OpenAI. The move also follows a volatile earnings period resulting from the July 2025 acquisition of Ansys. While diluted earnings per share dropped in the first half of fiscal 2026, they rebounded to $2.84 in the third quarter. The repurchase program serves as a signal of confidence in the company's near-term valuation and its earnings recovery following the Ansys acquisition.
