Omar Abdullah Pledges No Further Electricity Rate Hikes
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah announced that the government will not increase electricity tariffs for the remainder of his tenure.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah announced in Tangmarg that the government will not increase electricity tariffs for the remainder of his tenure. Addressing a public gathering, Abdullah defended a recent limited tariff revision by comparing it to larger increases of 13% to 15% implemented by previous administrations, specifically citing the PDP-BJP government under former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti.
Abdullah pledged to fulfill all government commitments within the next three and a half years. He stated, "I assure you, my complete effort will be that, God willing, during this government, after this, we will not increase the electricity rates any further."
The administration is shifting its focus toward improving basic public services and infrastructure. Key priority areas include the repair of schools, the deployment of doctors to hospitals, and the enhancement of roads, horticulture infrastructure, and clean drinking water supplies.
