A delinquent tax auction in Luzerne County generated a record $4.68 million from the sale of 143 properties, surpassing the previous high of $4.616 million set two years ago. The first-stage upset sale required buyers to pay minimum bids based on delinquent taxes and municipal liens while assuming responsibility for any outstanding mortgages or non-municipal liens.
Jeffrey Burrows, operating through Iron Castle Holdings LLC, was the highest spender, paying $1.023 million for 11 properties. This included the auction's highest individual price of $144,000 for a property in West Hazleton. Antonio Mannino acquired the most properties by volume, purchasing 18 parcels for a total of $456,251.
While 3,220 parcels were initially eligible for the auction in June, thousands of owners paid their debts to avoid the sale. The remaining 274 unsold parcels are scheduled to move to a judicial sale in August 2027. County Councilwoman Patty Krushnowski attended the event as a registered bidder, describing the process as professional and well-run.
