Amazon and GoodRx Expand Prescription Drug Subscription Services
Amazon and GoodRx are growing their prescription drug subscription plans as rising healthcare costs and declining insurance coverage drive demand for affordable generic medications.
The e-commerce giant Amazon.com and healthcare company GoodRx are expanding their prescription drug subscription services to target Americans facing higher deductibles and the loss of individual plans under the Affordable Care Act in 2026.
Amazon offers RxPass to Prime members for $5 per month, while GoodRx provides its Companion plan for $14.99 per month. Both services grant access to select generic medications. Amazon Pharmacy reports that RxPass usage has grown nearly threefold since 2023. GoodRx reported a 39% increase in subscription revenue, reaching $28.5 million in the second quarter.
GoodRx CEO Wendy Barnes described the subscription plan as a complement to insurance. Amazon Pharmacy Vice President John Love noted that more than 70% of RxPass users fill three or more different medications, indicating the program reaches people with ongoing health needs.
While these companies pursue subscription models, Cost Plus Drugs continues to utilize a cost-plus pricing model. Analysts suggest Amazon is leveraging its pharmacy services to further integrate into the healthcare sector and strengthen the value of its Prime membership.
