Gaza Death Toll Exceeds 74,000 After Three Years of War

The Gaza Ministry of Health reports over 74,245 deaths and systemic infrastructure collapse three years after the October 7, 2023 Hamas attack.

The Gaza Ministry of Health reports that the total Palestinian death toll has exceeded 74,245 three years after the October 7, 2023 attack by Hamas. Despite a ceasefire agreement reached in October 2025, the ministry states that ,1462 Palestinians have been killed since that agreement took effect.

Israeli military operations have resulted in a systemic collapse of the territory's economy, healthcare, and education sectors. The United Nations reports that 92 percent of economic establishments are damaged or destroyed, with unemployment reaching 78 percent. Infrastructure losses include damage to 98 percent of schools and all 36 hospitals. Israeli military control now covers approximately 70 percent of the Gaza Strip, forcing two million people into less than 30 percent of the land.

The media sector has suffered similar devastation, with the Gaza Government Media Office estimating $1 billion in losses and the destruction of over 80 percent of media offices. Palestinian authorities and journalism organizations report that 263 media workers have been killed, a figure the International Federation of Journalists calls the highest in modern journalism history. The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate estimates that more than a fifth of the territory's 1,200 journalists are dead, while 60 to 75 percent of survivors are displaced.

While Hamas announced in July that it would transfer administrative powers to the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, that transition has not yet occurred.
