Coldwater Mayor Clarifies Data Center Zoning Restrictions

Coldwater Mayor Tom Kramer addressed social media rumors regarding the establishment of data centers during a City Council meeting on July 13, 2026. His comments followed a vote by the Coldwater Planning Commission the previous week to create stringent ordinances that limit where data centers can be built and how they can operate within city limits.

Kramer clarified that while state law prevents the city from banning data centers entirely, the local government retains the authority to implement strict restrictions on their placement. This regulatory approach aligns Coldwater with similar zoning ordinances recently adopted by Girard and Quincy Townships.
