Dickon Mitchell Leads NDC to Historic Landslide in Grenada
Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell and the National Democratic Congress won 14 of 15 parliamentary seats, securing a historic second consecutive term in government.
Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) won a landslide victory in the Grenada general elections held on November 5, 2026. The NDC secured 14 of the 15 parliamentary seats, capturing 61 percent of the popular vote with 37,369 votes. This result marks the first time the party has won a second consecutive term since its founding in 1987, breaking a historical pattern of single-term governments in 1990 and 2008.
The opposition New National Party (NNP) received 36.84 percent of the vote and was reduced to a single seat in St. George North West, won by Adrian Joseph. NNP leader Emmalin Pierre conceded the result, stating that democracy requires accepting the population's verdict with dignity. Other contenders, including the Democratic People’s Movement led by former Foreign Affairs Minister Peter David, failed to make a significant impact.
Voter turnout was 63.3 percent, with 61,460 ballots cast from an electorate of 97,031. Following the victory, Mitchell intends to continue his administration's focus on healthcare, education, employment, infrastructure, and economic development. Caribbean leaders from nations including Barbados, Guyana, and Trinidad and Tobago extended congratulations to Mitchell on his mandate.
