GMO Internet Requests Japanese Government Active Cyber Defense
GMO Internet requested government intervention after a cyberattack compromised over 26,000 servers used for automated currency trading.
GMO Internet requested that the Japanese government implement active cyber defense measures following a breach that affected up to 26,739 servers used for automated FX currency margin trading. The company announced it will compensate users for financial losses caused by unauthorized transactions and provide a 5,000 yen consolation payment to all users.
The request comes shortly after the government launched an active cyber defense system on October 1. This system authorizes the police and the Japan Self-Defense Forces to pre-emptively infiltrate attacker servers to neutralize threats and prevent further damage.
