Bill Pulte Purges Fannie Mae Executives Amid Privatization Push
FHFA Director Bill Pulte removed at least 10 high-ranking Fannie Mae executives as part of a broader effort to privatize the mortgage giant.
At least 10 high-ranking executives are departing Fannie Mae after being notified on Wednesday that their positions were eliminated. The purge is part of a series of rapid structural changes led by Bill Pulte, the Director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency.
Pulte has consolidated control over the mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac by appointing himself as chairman of the boards for both organizations. In addition to removing senior leadership, Pulte is actively pushing for both government-sponsored enterprises to go public.
This leadership upheaval coincides with significant financial instability, including broader housing market uncertainty and a global bond market selloff. The volatility in the bond market recently became severe enough to prompt a direct intervention by the United States Department of the Treasury.
