AI Infrastructure Firms Expand Capacity to Meet Rising Demand
Cipher Digital, Sterling Infrastructure, and Comfort Systems USA are scaling operations and backlogs to support the growing physical requirements of artificial intelligence.
Several infrastructure firms are rapidly expanding their operations to support the physical requirements of artificial intelligence. Cipher Digital is scaling its AI data center portfolio to 5.3 gigawatts, which includes a 900-megawatt site option near San Antonio. The company expects its annualized net operating income to grow from $97 million this year to $686 million next year.
Sterling Infrastructure reported a 90% year-over-year revenue increase in the second quarter, fueled by its e-infrastructure segment and the June acquisition of Stone Ridge Contracting. These developments have resulted in a $4.3 billion backlog for the firm.
Comfort Systems USA, a provider of critical HVAC solutions for data centers, saw its backlog grow to $14.1 billion by the end of the second quarter, up from $6 billion at the end of 2024. In response to this growth, the company increased its second-quarter dividend payout by 12.5% year-over-year.
