Apple Develops iOS 27 Update to Fix iPhone 18 Pro Reboots

Apple Inc. is developing a software update to resolve a bug that causes iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max devices to freeze and automatically restart. The issue occurs when a Face ID authentication attempt fails while using a protected application, such as private Safari tabs or the Passwords app. Specifically, the system crash is triggered when a user taps Try Face ID Again after an initial failed scan.

The problem surfaced shortly after the models went on sale. While the iPhone 18 Pro series features a redesigned Face ID sensor with an infrared camera moved behind the screen to reduce the size of the Dynamic Island, the company has identified the rebooting issue as a software glitch rather than a hardware failure. Some users had previously replaced their hardware through Apple support under the impression that the fault was physical.

Apple has acknowledged the issue and confirmed that a corrective iOS 27 update should be available early next week, although the specific version number has not been disclosed.
