Brett Lindstrom Enters Nebraska Governor Race as Nonpartisan

Former Nebraska State Senator Brett Lindstrom submitted over 5,700 signatures on August 3, 2026, to qualify as a nonpartisan candidate for governor in the November 3 general election. Running with Navy veteran Mike Picard, Lindstrom introduced the Nebraska Doctrine, a policy platform centered on energy grid protection, housing expansion and property tax reform.

Lindstrom criticized the current administration for raiding cash funds and depleting historic reserves without a sustainable payment plan, claiming citizens are now being handed the bill. He joins a field that includes incumbent Republican Governor Jim Pillen, Democrat Lynne Walz and Legal Marijuana NOW nominee Rick Beard.

Reactions to the entry were divided. Taylor Sliva, campaign manager for Jim Pillen, dismissed Lindstrom as a failed career politician whose record aligns with liberal policies. Lynne Walz stated that the expanded field would not change her focus on growing the state and lowering costs for families. Conversely, Rick Beard welcomed the new candidacy, suggesting that more ideas are necessary to fix Nebraska's financial troubles.
