India Automotive Retail Sales Grow 28.6 Percent in July
India's automotive retail sales rose 28.6 percent year-on-year in July 2026, driven by strong EV adoption and new model launches.
India's automotive retail sales grew 28.6 percent year-on-year between July 1 and July 23, 2026. According to Choice Institutional Equities, growth occurred across all vehicle segments, led by tractors at 36.8 percent and two-wheelers at 31 percent. Commercial vehicles grew by 27.3 percent, passenger vehicles by 20.6 percent, and three-wheelers by 18.1 percent.
Analysts attribute this surge to steady consumer sentiment, recent model launches, increased electric vehicle adoption, and improved affordability following GST rationalization and lower interest rates.
Parallel to retail growth, the auto and auto ancillaries sector is entering a new investment cycle. Brickwork Ratings reports that projects valued at Rs 703 billion are scheduled for commissioning between FY27 and FY29. This industrial momentum is supported by FAME III incentives, Production Linked Incentive schemes, and capacity expansions by original equipment manufacturers and Tier I suppliers.
