Summit and Grant Counties Begin 2027 Budget Processes
Summit County and Grant County officials have initiated their 2027 fiscal year budget planning with a focus on staffing and financial projections.
Two separate county governments in the United States have launched their budget processes for the 2027 fiscal year. In Summit County, County Manager Shayne Scott presented a draft budget of approximately $107 million. The proposal allocates funding for 13 new positions within the sheriff's and housing departments and introduces a strategic plan for senior services. Scott noted that sales tax growth allows the county to avoid property tax increases.
In Washington, Grant County officials are simultaneously reviewing updated financial projections. County Administrator Tom Gaines introduced a new budget spreadsheet that compares actual spending from 2023 to 2026 against 2027 projections. This tool is intended to help department heads identify required spending adjustments before the Grant County Board of County Commissioners conducts a final review and adoption of the budget.
