QatarEnergy Buys US LNG to Hedge Strait of Hormuz Risks
QatarEnergy is purchasing long-term LNG supplies from the United States and other nations to protect revenue against potential closures of the Strait of Hormuz.
QatarEnergy is purchasing long-term liquefied natural gas supplies from the United States and other international providers to establish a trading and arbitrage hedge. The strategy is designed to safeguard the state energy company's financial stability against regional instability and potential disruptions to its own exports.
CEO Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi stated that the plan serves as a contingency measure specifically targeting the risk of a closure of the Strait of Hormuz. In such a scenario, the company expects a spike in global gas prices, which would allow it to generate revenue from these external supplies to offset income lost from disrupted Qatari exports.
