Denby Pottery Closes All UK Stores Cutting 600 Jobs

Denby Pottery Company closed all remaining UK retail stores on August 29 after entering administration due to rising costs.

The Denby Pottery Company, a historic British firm founded in 1809, closed all of its remaining retail stores in the United Kingdom on Saturday, August 29. The closures occurred one day ahead of the planned Sunday deadline because high customer demand during a bank holiday closing-down sale exhausted stock faster than expected.

The company entered administration earlier this year following financial struggles driven by increasing costs. The retail shutdown affects outlets in Ashford, Portsmouth, Braintree, York, Dalton Park, Castleford, Cheshire Oaks, and Somerset, resulting in the loss of approximately 600 jobs.

Despite the collapse of its physical retail presence, the Denby brand will continue to trade under new ownership. Joint administrator Tony Wright stated that while the stores are closing, the brand itself will continue to ensure its legacy lives on.
