Central Statistics Office Ireland reports a 29.1% drop in unadjusted goods exports for May 2026, reducing the national trade surplus to €3.5 billion.
The Central Statistics Office Ireland reported that the unadjusted value of Irish goods exports fell to €16.5 billion in May 2026, a decrease of €6.8 billion or 29.1% compared to May 2025. During the same period, the unadjusted value of goods imports rose by €2.0 billion to reach €13.1 billion.
On a seasonally adjusted basis, both exports and imports declined. This trend contributed to a reduction in the trade surplus, which dropped to €3.5 billion in May 2026 from €4.8 billion in April 2026.
The United States, Great Britain, and the Netherlands remained the primary export partners. Trade with Great Britain grew by €336.4 million to reach €1.6 billion, establishing the country as Ireland's third-largest export trading partner for the month.
