Tennessee Midterm Early Voting Ends With 10 Percent Turnout

Kayla Jenkinson-Jones, CEO and president of the Tennessee Democracy Network, announced that early voting for the August 6, 2026, midterm elections concluded on August 1 with only 10 percent of registered voters casting ballots. Despite the low figure, Jenkinson-Jones noted that more people voted in this early cycle than in the previous midterm election.

Jenkinson-Jones predicts total turnout will eventually reach between 30,000 and 33,000 voters, representing approximately 14 percent to 15 percent of the eligible electorate. She attributed the chronic lack of participation to a deficiency in community awareness regarding registration deadlines and election dates.

Characterizing Tennessee as a "non-voting state," Jenkinson-Jones argued that the state's political identity is defined less by partisan alignment and more by its historically low voter engagement.
