Senate Leadership Fund Pledges $15 Million to Defend Pete Ricketts
The Senate Leadership Fund is spending $15 million to help Republican Senator Pete Ricketts defend his Nebraska seat against independent challenger Dan Osborn.
The Senate Leadership Fund, a super PAC aligned with Senate Republicans, announced it will spend $8 million through Election Day on Nov. 3 to defend Pete Ricketts in Nebraska. This latest commitment brings the group's total planned spending for the seat to $15 million, which includes $7 million previously allocated through Cornhusker Majority.
Senator Ricketts has contributed $5.25 million of his own funds to the campaign. He is facing a challenge from Dan Osborn, an independent candidate and union leader. Other financial contributors to the race include the Win It Back PAC, which spent $2.3 million, and the Working Class Majority PAC and Nebraska Values PAC, both of which support Osborn.
Republican leadership is prioritizing the seat to maintain a 53-47 Senate majority, particularly as economic anxiety and high fuel prices impact the Midwest. While election watchers currently favor Ricketts, polls indicate the contest remains tight. Support for the incumbent has included campaign visits from Donald Trump and planned appearances by Senate Majority Leader John Thune.
