India July Wholesale Price Inflation Dips Slightly to 9.78 Percent
India's Wholesale Price Index inflation fell slightly to 9.78 percent in July 2026, driven primarily by high fuel and power costs.
India's Wholesale Price Index (WPI) inflation decreased slightly to 9.78 percent year-on-year in July 2026, down from 9.87 percent in June. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry released provisional data showing the index for all commodities stood at 110.0 for the month.
Fuel and Power costs remained the primary driver of inflation, recording the highest rate at 20.05 percent. Other significant contributors included food articles, mineral oils containing petroleum products, and the manufacture of chemicals, food products, and basic metals. Primary Articles and Manufactured Products saw inflation rates of 8.52 percent and 8.29 percent, respectively.
In a separate adjustment to previous data, the government revised the final WPI inflation for May 2026 upward to 9.88 percent, increasing it from the initial provisional estimate of 9.68 percent.
