Vistra Corp Secures Carbon-Free Power Deals with Meta

Vistra Corp signed long-term agreements with Meta to provide carbon-free power for AI data centers while managing significant debt from recent acquisitions.

Vistra Corp has transitioned toward a specialized utility model by securing direct, long-term power purchase agreements with hyperscalers to fuel AI and data center energy demands. This strategy allows the company to bypass traditional regulatory rate increases.

As part of this initiative, the company signed a 20-year agreement with Meta Platforms for 2,609 MW of carbon-free power. Vistra also entered a separate 1,200 MW agreement linked to its Comanche Peak facility. These deals aim to provide the stable, sustainable energy required for large-scale AI infrastructure.

Despite these strategic wins, Vistra faces financial headwinds. The company carries 15.8 billion dollars in total debt and reports tight liquidity following a 3.1 billion dollar cash outlay for the acquisition of Energy Harbor. Simultaneously, Vistra has aggressively repurchased 29 percent of its outstanding shares since 2021.
