Apple Acquires Czech Materials Science Firm PlasmaSolve

Apple Inc. acquired PlasmaSolve s.r.o., a materials science firm based in Brno, Czech Republic, in April 2026. The acquisition became public recently following a regulatory disclosure on the European Commission website.

Founded in 2016 by Adam Obrusnik, PlasmaSolve developed a software platform called MatSight. The tool utilizes physics, chemistry, and machine-learning models to create digital twins of plasma-powered coating systems, specifically optimizing Physical Vapor Deposition and Plasma-Enhanced Chemical Vapor Deposition processes.

Apple currently uses these deposition methods to apply durable protective and decorative coatings to its device enclosures and components. By absorbing PlasmaSolve's simulation technology, Apple aims to improve coating uniformity, increase manufacturing efficiency, and reduce production defects. The technology company took full ownership of the firm through a subsidiary and hired several of its employees.
