Gunmen Kill Two During APC Political Meeting in Osogbo
Gunmen killed two people and injured six during an All Progressives Congress mobilization meeting in Osogbo, prompting conflicting claims of political motivation and cult activity.
Gunmen killed two people and injured six others, including a 13-year-old girl, during a political mobilization meeting for the All Progressives Congress in Osogbo on July 15, 2026. The attacks occurred in the Owode-Igbona and Egbatedo areas, where assailants in black uniforms reportedly used AK-47 rifles and Beretta pistols. The victims were identified as Kazeem Akande and Lekan.
Ademola Adeleke, Governor of Osun State, condemned the violence and characterized the incidents as suspected cult-related killings. He denied allegations that the state government was involved in the attacks and urged security agencies to apprehend the culprits.
Conversely, APC leaders alleged the violence was a politically motivated effort to intimidate voters. Ambassador Issah Niniola claimed that individuals released from prison were being armed to create fear among the electorate, while other party officials alleged the perpetrators operated from the Government House.
The Osun State Police Command arrested two suspects following the incident in Egbatedo. Authorities recovered a pistol, three rounds of ammunition, and five cartridges from the crime scenes, though no arrests were immediately made regarding the attack in Owode-Igbona.
