Wisconsin Opens Early In-Person Voting for General Election

Wisconsin began early in-person absentee voting on October 20 for the November 3 general election, featuring a gubernatorial race between David Crowley and Tom Tiffany.

Early in-person absentee voting began on October 20 across Wisconsin for the November 3 general election. The process allows voters to request, complete, and return a ballot in a single visit and will continue through November 1. In Milwaukee, 11 early voting sites opened, including the Zeidler Municipal Building, where faith leaders held a rally to encourage turnout.

The Wisconsin Elections Commission expects more than 2.6 million voters to participate. While Waukesha County reported an increase in registered voters and absentee requests, the commission and Milwaukee County noted a general decline in absentee ballot requests compared to the 2022 midterms. As of October 19, 364,888 absentee ballots had been requested and 173,164 returned. Officials attributed the decline in mail-in requests to postal delays and a shift toward alternative voting methods.

To ensure ballots are counted by the 8 p.m. Election Day deadline, officials urged voters to mail their ballots by October 20. Voter registration remains available until October 30. The election is headlined by a gubernatorial contest between Democrat David Crowley and Republican Tom Tiffany, who are scheduled to participate in a statewide debate at Marquette University on October 21.
