Ontario Ministry of Transportation Schedules Extensive Highway Closures

The Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation scheduled over 120 highway closures across Niagara, Halton, Hamilton, and Simcoe regions for emergency repairs and maintenance.

The Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation scheduled a series of extensive roadwork closures across several Ontario regions between October 24 and October 26, 2026. The operations began on October 24 with 25 closures in the Niagara and Halton regions, affecting Highway 58, Highway 406, and the Queen Elizabeth Way. These disruptions included nightly lane closures in Thorold, Welland, St. Catharines, and Fort Erie, with some projects expected to continue into December.

On October 25, the agency expanded closures to Hamilton, implementing seven disruptions. These included nightly lane closures on Highway 403 westbound and alternating lane closures on the Toronto-bound Queen Elizabeth Way between Centennial Parkway and the Burlington Skyway, as well as daily restrictions on Highway 6.

The scale of disruptions increased on October 26, with the ministry scheduling five closures in Halton and 89 closures across the Simcoe region. Work in Simcoe impacted Highways 400, 11, 12, 26, 89, and 93, featuring short-term full closures in Bradford supported by the Ontario Provincial Police. Many of these Simcoe closures are expected to extend into early November.
